Discover the History behind Raven Hair Studio
Roots and Rejuvenation
Raven Hair Studio has been a community fixture for over 50 years. Established by Winn Maxwell, Raven Hair Studio was originally called Beauty Haven and was located in Vernon’s Fuhr building. The shop has been previously owned by Yvonne and Helen Piderbeskie, and has employed many experienced and gifted stylists over the years, including June Valchoria. In 1975, Carol Roney became the new owner and moved the shop downstairs. Pull curtains were added to the stations to offer patrons additional privacy if they didn’t want to be seen with rollers or rods in their hair.
A New Start
Eventually, the business changed hands (and locations) once again. Carol stayed on to help out while the new owner, Chelsey, settled in. The salon was rebranded Raven Hair Studio in 2018.
For Chelsey, hair is where her heart is. Originally from Saskatchewan, Chelsey attended hair school in Vernon and decided to stay. She was originally drawn to the creative aspects of hairdressing but soon realized the profession’s main rewards are the amazing relationships made with clients and colleagues. The first time she stepped into Beauty Haven, she felt an amazing energy. When she witnessed first-hand the quality and care each client received, she wanted to be a part of it immediately.
Chelsey hopes that the salon’s roots will hold strong and thrive. Inspired by the beauty, intelligence, mystery, and community spirit of the raven, she renamed the salon Raven Hair Studio. She looks forward to future growth built on a foundation of intelligence, beauty, and quality care.

We are one of the friendliest salons around with amazing customer service that goes the extra mile. Many of our staff have worked with us for the better part of 20 years. We are currently the only salon in Vernon to carry and specialize in wigs. Chelsey remains the resident colour expert and colour educator here at the shop. Constant improvement has always been a key component of the salon’s success.
Our staff is community focussed and strives to promote eco-conscious initiatives. As a member of Green Circle Salons, a group of environmentally conscious salons, we use biodegradable products, ethical hair care brands, and even fair trade coffee!
